We have a boy who doesn’t believe in love and a girl who only believes in love. I Hate Luv Storys movie review…
‘I hate luv storys’ is the maxim Jay (Imran Khan) lives by, whose attraction towards girls doesn’t go beyond flirtatious friendships or one night stands. Love, for him, doesn’t exist.
But as an assistant director to a most famous romantic filmmaker of Indian Film Industry, Jay has little option but to live with larger than life, glossy, cinematic love on an everyday basis. Things only get worse when he is made to work under the new production designer on the film… Simran (Sonam Kapoor), with whom he shares the strangest first encounter!
Simran loves luv storys; So much so that even her life has begun to resemble one. With her ideal job and the perfect boyfriend, Raj (Sammir Dattani), she lives a blissful, dreamy life; One that is rudely interrupted by Jay’s cynicism.
Simran is happy with her love story with Raj and is just thinks it is just perfect. But the cool dude Jay, is skeptic about Simran’s affair with reminders about her boyfriend Raj’s ‘fugly’ shirts and the sweety-sugary approaches of Raj, which are found only in apna Bollywood films, and of course not, in reality!
After a series of constant repartees between Jay and Simran, it gives way to a nice friendship, and before she feels it, she is in love with Jay. Our cool dude is in his own world, blissfully unaware of her feelings. So the film is about whether this non believer in love stories will he discover love?
The turmoil’s of Jay and Simran’s life, is ironically interweaved with the Luv Story that they are working on….
So it comes till the end in I Hate Luv Storys whether Jay and Simran will ever find their own Luv Story…
Towards the end, the story is simply predictable and here it is that the story adapts to the typical Bollywood ending with the hero rushing bending down on his knees and proposing her with a bouquet of flowers and other goody goody things.
I Hate Luv Storys begins well, with very realistic moments about a young guy working in a production house in Mumbai. While the setting in second half shifts to the beautiful country – New Zealand. Lovely scenery of this Kiwi country is beautifully captured by Cinematographer Ayananka Bose. Those tender moments in the romantic New Zealand are awesome.
Imran Khan shines in this film and what to mention about the beautiful Sonam Kapoor as the dreamy eyed Simran. Soman has portrayed well the character of a cute gal who can be vulnerable when in love, and icily indifferent when jilted.
Samir Soni is brilliant as Veer, the over-expressive Bollywood filmmaker, who constantly weaves the magic of romance on the Indian screen. The handsome Sammir Dattani as Raj is apt in his part of a goody-goody lover who regularly sends white flowers to his girlfriend..
I Hate Luv Storys is an enjoyable fare, a typical Mills and Boon type of a story. Go, its worth a watch.
